Bomber Glut Building

The warehouse-type older tract homes in SE Carlsbad are sitting patiently, hoping that the spring selling season might bring some love their way.  The list would be longer if those who failed to sell last year would have trudged on, instead of renting:

    that office looks like it was a gym with cardio equipment plugged in at some point. Those machines need their own dedicated outlets. And that floor looks really industrial, but spongy.

    profhoff makes a good point, maybe a home fitness instructor studio?

    Also, I’ll never understand somebody making a “strategic default” 8 years into their mortgage, losing their downpayment, and waiting 2-5 years to make another go of it by starting from scratch. Was there funny financing on the 2004 sale? A big HELOC or second taking out after purchase?

    Lastly, what constitutes a good hardwood floor? I’m prepping for some remodeling in stages and it will be “awhile” before we get to the floors (assuming new floors should go in near the end). Who makes good, but affordable, hardwoods?

    I just finished reading your first link, interesting and informative, thanks. Your local Abbey guys sound amazing, any chance I can import them to NorCal? 🙂

    I realized that I hadn’t renamed the link in my remodeling file and as I went to do that, I realized I could dump about two dozen links for roofing and concrete places. Damn, that felt good.

    Looks like the bank did a bit of clean up. That place was nasty when it was a short sale. Ants all over the kitchen. It also had a “funky” sloping effect on the second floor near the front balcony. Lots of rot on the soffits around the house as well.

    The selling prices from 2001-2004 rose 46% in just three years! This McMansion could be the poster child for the exuberance of the housing market in the early years of the 21st century…

    Susie – You are right. The lesson is if your house ever appreciates nearly 50% in 3 years, sell it and pocket the cash because it isn’t going to stick.
