Industry Titans in San Diego

Well I was probably wrong on Sunday about the Robert Reffkin appearance meaning something else. I didn’t realize that there was a big conference scheduled for today at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort.

It wasn’t a realtor conference; instead it was the industry titans getting together.

Robert Reffkin, CEO of Compass:

“You need to be a platform or you’re going to compete against one.”

    He’s such a lying scumbag though.

    He talks a good game, but it’s the classic bait-and-switch. In reality, they do as little as possible, give no advice, and hope you don’t object.

    I’m not sure where you get the information that Redfin agents do as little as possible and give no advice. It is highly agent dependent that amount of attention you receive (as are most brokerages). Their website has the most information compared to any other publicly available site (and some MLS sites as well)

    I’ve seen you mention before that you get upset that Redfin pays an agent $50 to open a door for a customer during a tour. I don’t see the harm in that at all. If I am really interested in a home, I’d visit again, and so would the Redfin agent, before making an offer. Why waste time accompanying your buyer on every single home they visit?

    It’s my personal experience.

    I’m an advocate for buyers and sellers getting good help. A good agent offers a qualified opinion about the house to assist your evaluation. The $50 trainees don’t know enough yet to have a qualified opinion, yet this is where buyers need it most.

    I am well aware that I’m losing this battle, and people are fine with getting little or no qualified help. It’s sad that the industry doesn’t do more to educate.
