The musical “Master of Space and Time”, Leon Russell, has us all anticipating the release of his newest album “The Union” with Elton John on the 19th of October.
Our beloved hero has been creating beautiful music for over half a century and the best is still to come. His influence on several generations American music is unmistakable!
In 1956, at the age of 14, he started his career playing with the Jerry Lee Lewis Band, good old fashioned Rock and Roll! He arranged and played on many of the big hits of the 60s with artists like Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Ike and Tina Turner, and Phil Spector’s Wrecking Crew (house band). His influence was found in the surf music of the day as he recorded with Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys, and yes, he is even there on the Sonny and Cher singles. He played with the Stones, Delaney and Bonnie and directed the legendary “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” tour which opened the door to Joe Cocker’s stardom. His first album on his own came in 1970, “with a little help from my friends”, George Harrison, Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton to name just a few. By 1973 he was the number one concert attraction in the United States of America. He has even had an impact on country western music with artists like Hank Williams and Willie Nelson.
This American Music Legend continues to share his incredible gift with us and will be, once again, be touring the USA, this time with Sir Elton John.
The musical “Master of Time and Space” is still sharing his gift, stronger than ever…..
