Julius Shulman, who passed away last year at age 98, captured the work of nearly every modern and progressive architect since the 1930s including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Gehry. His images epitomized the singular beauty of Southern California’s modernist movement, and brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general public. I had the opportunity to meet Shulman at his home (where he was also working) a few years before he passed away and bought reproductions of the photos to took of the Neutra House occupied by Ayn Rand in the 1940s (since torn down). He was already in his 90s but had a remarkable memory for the photographs and he projected so much love for photography and joy in his career. I am looking forward to seeing the film (got it on Netflix tonight!)

Should be interesting. Hubby’s an architect who’s done a lot of paid architectural photography.
There is a house in 92037 on Sagebrush that is now an REO that looks like it was inspired by this architect.
Probably a nice house to have a JtR tour of…
