What a gem that Spinnaker Hill area is – especially towards the cul de sac (Wisteria Wy/Lilly Pl). Buying in Spinnaker in 2006 was way out of reach, but to those with zero down or the newly move up obviously not.
How can I be assured that the “owners” of the N Carlsbad house won’t take that “million dollar gate” with them upon leaving?

Banks suck…
At least small rays of capitalism is starting to shine through.

See Timeeye, I would hope that the “owners’ WOULD take their million dollar gate with them. I can’t imagine the pain it would be to get it removed.

Not only the banks but legislation to provide homes to everyone – which goes back a decade or so.

Jim, I know you are the resident expert in North County Real Estate. However, I’m pretty sure Spinnaker Hill does have CCRs in place (with a small annual fee) that restrict adding a second story. Some at the top have done it because they do not infringe on another resident’s view. I will defer to you for final.
They probably do – the builder included those short fences on the view homes, so they were conscious of it.
I talked to the Spin Hill owner yesterday, he got his loan mod too, from WFB.
The gate guy filed for bankruptcy, buying him another six months of free rent. I’m still scratching my head on the need for a two-foot high gate, is it just to keep punks from doing a lawn job? Sir, if you ever lived in Phoenix AZ, and were victimized there by punks running through your gravel front yard at all hours of the night, which caused you to be so paranoid about it that you felt the need to install a two-foot high gate to stop it from ever happening again, I am sorry. I won’t do it again.

Is it possible that the gate is to keep a little kid in? I’d still just put a higher fence in, mostly because the curb appeal would be much better. A higher fence would also be better once the kid is over 4 years old and could hop that fence.

It keeps dogs from p*ssing on the lawn. Dog owners have not problem cleaning up poo, but care less about pee.

“Just want to point out the ugliest house I ever sold. This is it. … I had the seller. … Just insanely ugly! I don’t know why I’m admitting that. I think because I did good just to be able to sell it!” (Jim)
Another classic JtR comment! Yep, I did put down the morning coffee so no need for insurance.
I love your humor! But the fact you’re just so different than the millions of other real estate agents just out for a commission puts you in a class by yourself.
Your videos and comments from the street do make you “word on the street” worthy. But it’s your outright integrity that keeps me coming back. Even if I never find a house, I’ll consider my real estate journey worthwhile just because I’ve learned so much. A simple mahalo nui loa is in order, Jim.

I’d bet that low gate/fence is the highest he was allowed to put in by city code. Our is 4′ along the front of the house, 6′ along the sides. I bet he’d have put in 4′ if he could have.
The low fence like that is someone with a lot of fear. They think that little fence offers them protection, even though it looks to the rest of us like a joke. What this guy really wants is a fully gated property, which is probably what he should have bought in the first place instead of wasting the money on an ineffective fence my cats could jump over.

What is it with mansard style roofs with spanish tiles? A very ugly combo.

JTR, the single biggest problem now is the endless postponements – it gets EXHAUSTING as a potential buyer looking for actual housing opportunities rather than flipping or investment opportunities.

I think I know the point of that gate. It’s to prevent everybody from making U-turns in your driveway. The lady across the street from me has gate for exactly that reason (my garage is placed differently so I don’t have that particular problem). Is that house anywhere near a corner?
