You know, maybe home sellers should take a cue from eBay. They charge a smaller listing fee if you start your auctions at $0.99 instead of $1.00. So I start all my auctions at $0.99. Just sold a BROKEN used laptop for about $400. Sheesh.

Nothing says dump more than the metal lawnmower shed on the side. Wait til SDGE mandates a “brush clearing” under those power lines.

Love the back and forth! Nothing against you, Jim, but you ought to bring her along more often. 😉
As for the awkward bathroom, men usually pee standing up. So imagine the mayhem when you fling the door open.
Maybe you can paint the walls yellow to hide the stains… 🙂

It looked like a decent deal until you panned up to the free clothes line in the back yard. The fact that the place sold for 500k at the end of 2003 shows how crazy things had gotten by then.

Great video tour, Jim (and your new assistant)! This is what sets you apart from all the rest and draws a worldwide audience. Your videographer-in-training is awesome! She’s got my vote – nice speaking voice, and good move on disclosing knee bruising bathroom door. I can’t believe those power lines. The house needs to be steeply discounted for that alone. Nice paint job, though. I may need to hire those guys.

I was thinking that place had potential until I saw the master bath. The sad part is, somebody paid a lot of money for that disaster of a bathroom and it has to be torn out and redone.

I can see maybe 500k in 2005 but lets get real.Someone will probably buy it so they get the 8k tax credit.
Do FHA insured loans get sold to fannie and freddie or do they stay at FHA?Is there a secondary market for FHA loans?
I’m feeling so good about my $530k purchase right now! 😀

That bathroom door could be fixed with a couple of up-down bolts like a commercial entrance. Why is the toilet in that position?

The asking price data for most major cities in the US at Housing Tracker shows that asking prices are going back into a downward phase after this summer’s short rally. How low will they go?

I think it’s interesting that all the construction guys started laughing when you said the price. (They probably live within their means with the money they earn.)
That’s exactly how I feel when I look at some of the houses for sale.

Jim to the painter “I’m just trying to help”.
lol, spitting up coffee on keyboard.
Painter “I cannot confirm or deny that” Must have worked for Bush.
Jim the Realtor wife: “God, this looks horrible -come on”
Jim, you must immediately enroll her in Realtor rehab run by your colleague Suzanne the caring and helpful realtor (see vid).
Where do you think my fanny pack is today? BK court or a mental asylum?
I agree with your very nice and honest wife. God this looks horrible. If up my way in SillyCon Valley you would have multiple offers and be dealing with several interpretors of various ethnicities – Don’t mind the smell. The tin shed out back would have a ‘For Rent’ sign on it already… and a lottery going on for parking priveleges…
Thanks for the am laughter…

@18 that’s because there are actually good paying jobs in the bay area. If you’re not in bioetch, where do you work in SD with a good paycheck?

about $280/sf in Carlsbad, sounds typical these days, maybe even low. I bet it sells. When I was looking I couldn’t find anything under $500K in Carlsbad (detached) that wasn’t a tiny fixer (worse than this one)

How did (does) junk like this ever get built?? Shouldn’t cities have a quality factor veto and just say “sorry, the power lines and layout are not suitable for SFDs”? Which brings me to another point… above ground power lines? Why? Ever? Cheapskates in previous years!!!

For the high tension power lines it’s far easier to put them above ground rather than below. They are also more reliable and easier to surface. I also wouldn’t want those power lines running underneath my property where SDGE needs to put holes in my yard. The last point is that was likely the middle of nowhere when the power lines were put up.

Really. Hey Great. Thanks for the heads-up. Didn’t realize all that. Come on UP to Nor Cal, JTR can still help you. We Need your taxes… We have houses under massive power lines too, and leukemia (sp) clinics as well. The kids grow up a little cock-eyed and talk funny, but they have drugs for that now…

looks like the Hataca one was smaller and sold for 250$/sq.ft
I love the candor. That place is a ‘hole.
510k – government subsidy = wtf + omg
I will up the bid to six dollars even.
Aw, Doug beat me to it. 😉

That place sucks. For $510K?
California is screwed. Who would want to go to law school to barely be able to afford that dump?

There is a secret rooom…. rofl
$510K for a dump beneath the power lines.

Still…I’d take a smaller house next to a park with nice views than a 2 story next to power lines any day! Especially if I saved $125K 🙂

Nice use of periods. Makes you seem smart. Key word seem.
I am from the bay area so no invitation necessary.
