In hopes of encouraging more readers to move somewhere (anywhere!), I took a spin around the north-coastal region of California via Zillow. I don’t know anything else about the area other than it is remote – readers who know more can feel free to comment!

Unlike around here, there are hundreds and hundreds of vacant lots for sale – though I imagine that getting good help to build a home might be a challenge.
At first I was going to mention it is 1-1/2 hours from Crescent City to the Costco in Eureka but then I realized that with traffic that’s not much different from Saturdays in Carlsbad. 😉
LOL! But it’s just on the I-5 southbound, due to all of the LA drivers going slow – because that’s all they know!
Yes there are many appealing factors to rural Northern California. Unfortunately, proximity to quality medical care is not one of them. I know a number of people who chose to retire to such areas when still in relatively good health, but now bemoan the 6-8-10-hr (one way) drive to UCSF, Stanford. I think Stanford could make a killing by opening a satellite clinic in Redding.
Great observation Ross, thanks!
Update in June, 2022:
The house in Ferndale sold for $650,000 – wow!
The house on Highway 101 with two red chairs overlooking the beach sold for $991,000.
The two most expensive homes are still for sale!
