In spite of higher prices, our market stats look pretty good – and they don’t include most of the new-home sales either, which have been cooking.  Here are a couple of examples:

“I am stunned by those prices. Stunned!”

I keep saying there are people making a lot of money these days. They just don’t brag about it to the public on Facebook. The BS’ers usually post on Facebook. The real money usually doesn’t. t guess in America, if it’s not on Facebook, it just can’t be.

I have relatives sending me pictures of their giant boats. I think, “why do you have such a giant boat? you have no need for it. You’re on it a few times a year, at most. And then you just sit on it. You don’t even go anywhere on it!” I don’t say it, because I don’t like my relatives telling me to go eff myself. But I DO think it!

Anyway… there’s people making a lot of money who don’t blink at the prices of these homes. At least their wives don’t.

Thanks, daytrip (that was me above, I just filled in the name part wrong – or rather not at all). But it’s not just people quietly making money that stuns me; that actually doesn’t stun me. It’s the fact that if they have $2mm to spend (or $4mm for a model) on a home — they go buy a tract home in Del Sur with high HOA. If I had that money that would not be the first place I’d turn. It’s just not charming, private, spacious or unique or any of the things I would think wealthy people would want. They could get something so totally cool in Rancho Santa Fe, esp. for $4mm, and no Mello Roos!

I wonder if, on their move in day, do they panic when they see they now own a really boring layout, postage stamp lot, and white walls that they just purchased for $2mm…do they wonder if it’s a good investment?

(full disclosure, I live in a tract house, but much much older and uglier, but also no Mello Roos + purchased in the $8s + in a cute town, so maybe someone is saying that about me! :))

That is just a lot, lot of money for something not great. But maybe it’s just taste level differences? I don’t know!
