Dammit Jim, I’m an I.T. guy not an investment banker! 😉
That place is absolutely gorgeous but at least $3M too rich for my blood.
Where’s the supermodel? Flippin sweet.
Something tells me that tranquility is the last thing that goes on in a place like this.
That is one gorgeous house. I love the arced ceilings.
Beautiful house, but what a disappointing lot. I doubt there is much of a view from there besides your neighbors.
This recently closed one seems a much better deal:

– Sold for about $900k less
– Lot is over twice as big
– One of the biggest views on Del Mar Mesa
– Main house is slightly bigger
– 1,200 sq. ft. guest house
And on and on – but architecture is probably not nearly as nice! The Duck Pond area seems to fetch higher prices, but most of the lots are far superior to this one.
Sellers have the +10% fever, especially around 92130.
Then you get into this stratosphere, and anything goes.
It would be interesting to see a follow up post when (or if) this sells with the actual sale price.
This one is in Duck Pond up on Del Mar Mesa. Soon to have a large Pardee Development in its back yard (Pardee Shaw Lorenz). Surprised the 10K square foot home with a good view that went for 2.4m is not affecting prices: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4931-Del-Mar-Mesa-Rd-San-Diego-CA-92130/79570858_zpid/
Cool home, but for an astonishing $3.7 million….I’ll head on over to the ranch!’
For that money, I can get myself a 6,327 sqft home on 2.97 acres, in the Ranch, for 2.95 and have 700K left over to do a nice remodel.

And it’s a bank deal! Everyone likes those.
I always wonder why people would choose this over a very nice home (on 2.5+ acres) in the Covenant.
I don’t get it.
So some schmuck spends millions for a house. Big deal – another mansion in southern California. I’m soooooooooo impressed.
All I need is a 2000sf track home in a good school district, with an 8000sf lot for under $700k.
Anything more is INSECURITY and INSANITY.
@ Grumpy. Gee, I wonder where you got your handle! 😉 Sounds like sour grapes to me. It’s like saying a Ford Escort is good enough, so buying a Lexus is insecure. Yha, ok.
@ College Joe, re: “I always wonder why people would choose this over a very nice home (on 2.5+ acres) in the Covenant.” Good question. But there aren’t very many places that are very nice in RSF at that price. Certainly nothing even remotely as nice as the featured house above. Most of the stuff is pretty dated (there are exceptions).
Fantastic design inside and out. Beautiful.
I personally would change the kitchen a little bit. I’d have cabinets with a more organic shape, materials and fixtures a smaller island and a table instead of that mega-island/table (the furniture equivalent of the spork) they got going there. That is a tiny criticism in a great design though.
The price…..alas.
