Hat tip to Mish – according to the uploader, there were 200 workers, each responsible for a installation area of 7 square meters:

    AWESOME!!!

If you can overlook the other 99.9% of communism, the productive part is great. Imagine the full body search by the Chinese TSA.

The Empire State Building took little over a year to build, is made out of steel and stone/cement, is over 100 floors, and was completed under budget.

There was a day when Americans could do this kind of thing.

The real story will be in the engineering and how many corners they had to cut.

As the saying goes, you can have it good, fast or cheap. Pick two.

Amazing. Looks like it used a lot of prefab pieces. Always thought this made sense to build a house in a factory and then only assemble on the site. Should be cheaper, faster, and easier. But hasn’t really happened yet…

Prefabbed modules help, but mostly it’s because of a large, well-equipped crew whose skills and teamwork are kept sharp because they work full-time and long-term for employers who use down time for continued training and process improvement rather than hiring and laying off by the project and having to retrain new teams of workers coming off periods of skill-atrophying unemployment every time they start a new one. Good old American know-how (W. Edwards Deming) that American industry has never really embraced but has been revered in other countries for decades.

I imagine thier permiting process is more mainstream than ours too.It takes forever to get anything done in CA.I really think this is hurting our competitiveness and dragging on the economy.

I doubt very much that the six day period described here includes the preliminary design, any of the red tape or the factory production time for the prefabbed modules and precut framing.

Red tape acceleration in the PRC is accomplished in much the same way it is here…by bribing public officials with cash and/or political favors. The biggest difference is the penalties imposed if the parties involved get caught, or if something collapses because of their shenanigans (the penalty for corrupt public officials used to be death by firing squad, don’t know if it still is today or if wealth now brings immunity the same as it does here).

OT ~ I’ve been MIA for two weeks due to an out-of-state move to my new home. Seriously, JtR, I was having severe withdrawal symptoms! I’m very grateful to be a homeowner again after 8 1/2 years of renting. When my computer just booted up, bubbleinfo was my first stop.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program, and I’ll catch up on all the posts I’ve missed…

it looked like they spent some time on site prep.
Foundations, clearing, and utilities, but, it did appear that they really banged the whole gig out.

Now it appeared they worked 24/7, so, they must have had 3 shifts on, so it’s more like 21 days, but
still impressive for a building that large.

the logistical planning is the key, they had all the cranes mapped out, they had the material coming at just the right time and they could build without stoppage.

what makes this hard is haing the bits coming at the right time.

now what was impresive was the insulation. 15 CM of wall insulation, they wanted to really stop heat flow.

if they added PV and water recovery, it’d be great

Welcome back Susie – let us know when the housewarming party is, and we’ll all bring a plant or something.

    How’s the new home Susie?

Jim ~ You’ve seen the pictures of my new home a few weeks ago. *Chuckle* Doncha think the garage would has ample sq. footage for at least 100 bubbleinfo addicts for a housewarming party?

Seriously, every guy who sees the size of that garage (and the epoxy floor) drools…

PS My friend took a video of the entire home but says the video is too long to attach to an email to me. You asked previously if I could share that here, but will the 60-picture “scrapbook” work instead?

Hillary ~ I love, love, love my new home!

My friend and my agent were behind me as I opened the front door with the key for the first time back on Friday morning, 11/12. I stood in the long entry–took a huge intake of air in wonder–and then immediately burst into tears.

My emotional reaction shocked me since this wasn’t my first home. Home buying is an emotional adventure–and I’m proof of that.
