The videos here try to document the what’s happening on the ground in the North SD County Coastal region, and the count is now up to 600! To commemorate these occasions, the 500th, showed our local ice cream trucks; today is another well-known entity, the trains of North County:

Once upon a time towns used to have a wrong side of the tracks. Since the beach is not likley the wrong side of the tracks, I guess you could say most of these houses are on the wrong side of the tracks.
Also there is a song called the railroad goes thru the middle of the house that would apply. The house has a front and a back and a middle where you seat the bill collectors and bye bye to the bill collectors.

Not that I’d ever want to live there but… wtf?

I LOVE the Coaster! I ride it every day to work and read the paper, watch the surf, all while avoiding the I-5 bumper-to-bumper. I live in 92008 and get the advantage of the Village and the coast, and commute to Sorrento Valley using less than a tank of gas a month. (Read: Why the hell would I want to live in sterile $1M plus Carmel Valley?)
That said, my house ain’t on top of the tracks! If the whole line were double-tracked, a lot of the idling diesels and horn blowing would be eliminated. Lot’s of NIMBY’s in Del Mar and Encinitas don’t want that to happen though. Plus, the geniouses in government want the public transportation money to go to a showcase statewide North/South bullet train instead of doing local rail improvement projects like this that would keep a crapload of cars off the freeway.
There, I feel better. And on my way home tomorrow, my Coaster amigos and I will get a 24oz. cold one for the ride home (since you can drink on the train) – our Friday tradition!
I live by the tracks, kind of like the train and living by a station is super convenient.
I never actually thought about how many trains we have going by every day. Looked it up and it’s 53 on average.
23 Coaster, 24 Amtrak, 6 freights. Coaster starts in O-side at 5:18am, stops at 6:17pm. Amtrak around midnight, (they have the brutal horn), the freights go mostly at night but I sleep right through them.
