Many years ago, we purchased a home in Carlsbad, using a realtor that was recommended to us - Jim Klinge. Fast forward to 2025, we recently had the privilege of selling 2 homes in Carlsbad, CA and didn't hesitate to reach out to Jim and Donna Klinge of Klinge Realty Group to guide us through the sales. The transactions were very different, each with its own unique situation, opportunities and challenges. From start to finish, Donna and Jim helped navigate the pre-sale preparation, the listing, showing of the house, buyer negotiations, the final close and all of the paperwork and decisions in between. We sold a home with Jim and Donna and from beginning to end they were consummate professionals. Their initial walk through the property resulted in a list of items to be repaired or updated. They supplied a list of vendors and job quotes to do the repairs and updates. We originally wanted to sell ‘as is’ and just get it over with. They gave us a selling price for ‘as is’ and options for doing a few updates/repairs to doing it all with the selling price for each option. Jim, I’ve got my Quantas ticket and passport in-hand…. Forget subtle psycho-sexual innuendo; this commercial leverages the obvious: house purchases are, in part, grounded in fulfilling the Freudian voids in our psyche. Bigger, as they say, is better.

I’m outraged by that commercial…not for the sexual innuendo (although I am very troubled by the increasing sexualization of EVERYTHING in the media)…but for the flippancy in which the staged victimization is portrayed. What is next, a feigned sadistic murder scene in which the “lingerie model” is saved by the real estate guys?

Hmmmm. I try to imagine being the seller that endorses this. I need to sell my really expensive place. Maybe it’s been on the market awhile. I saw these guys in the last stunt so I give them a call. They give me the full court press and lather some Hollywood hype on top of it all. They let me meet the “crack” production team and the 3 “actresses” that sold that other place. And they let me attend the shooting.
So much excitement! And maybe it will sell my house!
It’s all fun and games until one of those properties fails to move so I suspect we’ll see more of this nonsense.
