Escondido Bomb Factory

Written by Jim the Realtor

Hat tip to AL for sending in more on the story in Escondido.

The tenant of this house has been arrested for having created a bomb factory in his residence, and now the sheriff has decided to burn the house down.  The owner of the house paid $479,000 in 2005, and refinanced it since, with loan balances around $500,000, so this will be the bank’s problem now.

But check this out – Jenae’s flipper client just bought the house next door for $221,000 at a trustee sale, and is trying to flip it for mid-$300,000s.  You’ll see her sign in the video:

Here’s a look inside the house:

They havent arrested super jenae yet?

  2. BottomFisher

I hope they get video of her sign going up in smoke and you can post it.

This make absolutely no sense. If the materials are so dangerous, why would they want to burn them? Isn’t the fire department and hazmat units paid to do this type of work? I mean really. why do they get paid such high salaries and benefits if they don”t want to do the job?

Sounds like a hot topic, but yet somewhat explosive.

  5. Vahid

I got an idea… don’t feel like taking any risks today… I feel kind of tired for the day…Let’s burn the house to the ground!

    – Lovely Govt. officials

The explosive material HMTD is very sensitive to shock. From the news accounts the stuff is salted throughout a house full of clutter, so any attempt to move any of it is a potential for a chain reaction explosion great enough to level the house and a substantial portion of the surrounding neighborhood.

  7. Daniel

And burning it will cause it to explode, unlike mere friction. Sounds like they are preparing to explode the house, not burn it down.

  8. joe

The epa should go out there and give some fines.

Those officials better quadruple-check what they are doing. It sounds risky as all get out. If they don’t know just what’s in there, seems risky to assume there won’t be an explosion or toxic smoke.

The authorities have been confirming with every bomb expert in the country that burning down the house is the best solution. The house does back to the I-15 freeway, so that’s a good buffer, but if it goes haywire they could level the neighborhood.

You probably won’t see Bubbleinfo TV on the case.

Well, I just have one question:

How did Jakubec live and move around in the house without him setting it off? Maybe he was just lucky?

And although I’m no expert on matters hazmat, I tend to agree that burning the structure does seem risky. Having said that, if it weren’t for that unfortunate gardener taking the unforseen hit, we have no idea how this situation would’ve played out. I don’t know what Jakubec was thinking, but it appears he had in mind, a plan to exact some medieval damage on something!

I added a second video showing the inside of the house – looks like a typical bachelor pad?

Barbara-Lee’s previous video showed the accused in the back of the squad car waving to the camera – which should guarantee that he’ll be using the insanity defense.

He’s facing 40 years to life and hasn’t hurt anyone (yet), and jenae is walking around free after costing banks $4 million-plus.

He did admit to robbing three banks though.

“There’s simply no way for our robots to fit, we SWEAR! And the windows are armor plated! It has nothing at all to do with cost, burning the place down is the only option!”

  15. RJ

I think the hazmat people and police were on some serious drugs at the meeting where that decision was made.

  16. François Caron

The anchorwoman said the house burning should be quite a spectacle.

    I agree. It’s going to be a BLAST! 🙂

  17. Art Eclectic

    Fascinating.

    I’ll be watching…from a safe distance 🙂

The Sheriffs dept called off the search inside the house a few days citing “unknown substances” presented a danger to their officers.

Yet burning “unknown substances” is presumed to not release toxins into the air? I would not want to be downwind of this fire.

I also heard that the reason they are declaring a state of emergency is to suspend environmental regulations that might prevent this plan.

I understand the danger of the situation. I understand they are looking for the best solution. I just don’t think they’ve considered the various consequences of potential airborne toxins from burning the house and its contents.

I can’t wait for the full length feature. I love a good bonfire.

  20. Former RB Resident

I can’t believe the neighbors aren’t objecting. A fire nearby seriously damages your house in terms of soot and odor. If the PD want it down, they should either move it or deconstruct it the old fashioned way.

  21. clearfund

If I lived nearby I’d spray some gasoline on my home and hope for a fire and then collect insurance and big payoffs from the gov and build a new house.

  22. MarkB

Well burning it down is certainly the cheapest option……..as long as they don’t get a detonation shock wave so big it levels everything within 500 feet……and as long as they don’t melt into liquid something that contaminates the water table to hundreds of feet down…..and as long as none of that grenade shrapenel gets launched miles into the air (the roof of the house should stop it) and comes back down to the ground after passing through someones vital organs.

    Aye aye aye!!!!

Earth Wind and Fire – anything

John Parr – St. Elmo’s Fire
    Vangelis – Chariots of Fire
    Seger – Fire Down Below
    Cheap Trick – The Flame

    last, but certainly not least:

Johnny Cash – Ring of Fire

    After The Fire: Der Kommissar

    heh-heh

When that officer said there would be no hazardous byproducts of the fire he rubbed his nose…a tell tail sign of lying.

Reminds me of a hazmat rule of thumb I once heard: hold your thumb out at full arm’s length. Close one eye, and try to cover the scene with your thumb. If your thumb doesn’t completely cover the scene, you are STILL TOO CLOSE, MOVE BACK!

#25 and #26, how could you forget the most obvious “Burning Down the House” by Talking Heads?

  27. Anonymous

I live 0.7 miles from this address. Even shorter as the crow flies. And, I do object to it being burned down. I’m worried about my children’s breathing and soil quality once the wind blows the soot our way. I remember washing off by sidewalks in 2003 and in 2007 there is plenty of debris that flies for miles in any fire. How are the officials in charge going to control that

Viewing party in San Elijo Hills at Double Peak Park only 8 miles away.

Unfortunately the amphitheater faces south but perfect views of the action. Bring some binoculars.
