Microsoft founder Bill Gates has purchased weight-loss icon Jenny Craig’s 229-acre thoroughbred training center in Rancho Santa Fe, which he plans to turn into a grand prix circuit for hunters and jumpers.
Gates, whose teenage daughter jumps horses competitively, paid $18 million for the facility in a deal that closed Sept. 12. It’s one of the highest prices secured for a property this year in San Diego County, where Gates also owns a home in the Del Mar Country Club.

Seems like a good deal at 18Mil – “229-acres in Rancho Santa Fe”.
I can just see this re-zoned into a giant condo complex in 20 years and sold for 18 Billion.

I agree, this seems like a screaming deal if you factor in the structures and land values. Even if you split 229 acres by 18 that would be 12 acre lots each. Seems like you could sell each for 1 mill especially if they’re all zoned for horses.
I thought Bill Gates said at one time he wasn’t going to spoil his kids or leave them too much!!!!! Normal kids might get a pony … she gets 229 acres in Ranch Santa Fe … lucky kid!!
