On the one hand, you’re living in the frickin’ desert with a bunch of a-holes like John McCain and Sarah Palin.
On the other hand, it’s Dirty Scottsdale (moderately NSFW, but if you can get past the pictures, pretty entertaining writing).

We have friends that got sick of the summer fog and moved from the beach to Rancho Mirage about 8 years ago. They are still trying to figure out how to escape 3-4 months a year.
Also, they need to leave the air conditioning set to 85 even when they aren’t there June thru September.
Otherwise, great place to hang Oct thru April….

Easy Varones: We are not all a-holes. Last time I was in San Diego I saw more homeless people downtown than India. There is good and bad everywhere.
I just happened to spend this last weekend in neighboring Phoenix. After a few days in 120-degree weather, my family and I all agreed that we would much rather be house-poor in San Diego than independently wealthy in Arizona.
No offense to our AZ friends here on the site! We still love to visit…

Phoenix is not the only place in Arizona. The degree of desparity of wealth in California is going to be played out soon. The vast majority of people now born or migrating to California are “house poor”. I, myself, would not feel comfortable being the 5% or so that live in million dollar plus homes. Seems kind of like a third world country to me.

Bill, the dirty little secret is that many other states bus in their homeless to San Diego, so that they don’t freeze in the streets…and the side benefit is that they get to reduce the homelessness on their streets, and add to ours.
I like that pool.
