Across from Carmel Beach and a short stroll to town, this restored 1929 M.J. Murphy Mediterranean home with unobstructed ocean views from three-levels is a rare gem for the very discerning. The diligent and inspired renovation retained the original mahogany doors, S & S tile, metalwork, hardware, fixtures & fireplaces, wherever possible, with careful architectural and historic considerations.
All the basic systems have been entirely replaced and the interior surfaces, mill-work, beams, floors, appliances and amenities are stunning. This classic has six-bedrooms, each with a private bath as well as many unique indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.
The home is 5,435-square-feet, and is listed for $15,000,000.
Wow! Gorgeous house. If I win the lottery, that is the house I am buying!
Absolutely stunning home! Um, Jim, where do I sign?
It’s a stunningly beautiful area but the weather is abysmal. It isn’t beach weather in San Diego….not even close! In the summer in Leucadia, the low temp is in the mid 60s to around 72 and the high is 75-80. In Carmel, the coast is downright FREEZING day in and day out and it just isn’t the same. If you like cold, dreary, damp, SF-like conditions….it’s great.
But I don’t.
That’s a little above most of our price ranges. How about $900k plus I’ll throw in my collection of surfing magazines, comic books and 80’s punk records?
Sigh . . . being middle class sucks.
What’s really nice about 1920’s homes, in particular Spanish Revival, is the crisp detailing.
It seems when people try to do that today they use over-sized, foam details that rely on how a house looks on a tiny computer screen. Note the absence of fake shutters as well.
Thanks for bringing up the level of understanding real estate as an appreciation of Architecture.
My type of style of cooking would ruin that kitchen counter in no time.
Each bedroom has its own private bathroom? Now that’s an idea I can get behind! If I ever build a custom, that’s definitely going in the plans. That makes it almost hotel-like when hosting family or other overnight guests.
Funny, I just spotted this on the Sotheby’s site the other day. Gorgeous. As for the weather, it ain’t ALL bad. Pebble Beach’s golf course wouldn’t be there if it totally sucked. They have plenty of sunny days, and even into the 80s now and then. Just nowhere near as many as SD!
That is true and fall is a great time for that area….or anywhere in the Bay Area, actually.
But for that kind of money, I would be heading a little further south to Big Sur, which is one of my favorite places…anywhere. But I guess people like living close to town, which I don’t (I like peace and quiet).
