We have known Jim & Donna Klinge for over a dozen years, having met them in Carlsbad where our children went to the same school. As long time North County residents, it was a no- brainer for us to have the Klinges be our eyes and ears for San Diego real estate in general and North County in particular. As my military career caused our family to move all over the country and overseas to Asia, Europe and the Pacific, we trusted Jim and Donna to help keep our house in Carlsbad rented with reliable and respectful tenants for over 10 years.
Naturally, when the time came to sell our beloved Carlsbad home to pursue a rural lifestyle in retirement out of California, we could think of no better team to represent us than Jim and Donna. They immediately went to work to update our house built in 2004 to current-day standards and trends — in 2 short months they transformed it into a literal modern-day masterpiece. We trusted their judgement implicitly and followed 100% of their recommended changes. When our house finally came on the market, there was a blizzard of serious interest, we had multiple offers by the third day and it sold in just 5 days after a frenzied bidding war for 20% above our asking price! The investment we made in upgrades recommended by Jim and Donna yielded a 4-fold return, in the process setting a new high water mark for a house sold in our community.
In our view, there are no better real estate professionals in all of San Diego than Jim and Donna Klinge. Buying or selling, you must run and beg Jim and Donna Klinge to represent you! Our family will never forget Jim, Donna, and their whole team at Compass — we are forever grateful to them.
According to the website it’s got plenty of bedrooms, unlike the Renton house, but I definitely haven’t screwed over enough people to be able to buy this or even to rent it for a week. 🙂
Jim,
All these gorgeous homes you keep sharing make the available housing stock in SoCal look like total dumps. I wouldn’t think that would be very good for sales. It sure depresses me when I see some 1970’s tract home that has never been updated, especially when I see the asking price.
This is a copy straight out of Bali. However, Central America in general, and Costa Rica in particular, do not have the culture of Bali. I would guess the owner has enough money for the security detail to guard the place.
Looks like an army to me:

Ronald McMansion, I was just going to say the same thing. I LOVE looking at these gorgeous homes but I sure get depressed when I take a look at the dumps on the coast within my budget (550K).
Jinx,
How far inland are you willing to go? What are you looking for?
I’m only 22 (just had my birthday) and I’ve always wanted to go “look at houses” for me and my future family since I was 16…ha.
If I had $550,000 to spend on a house? Hmm…

That isn’t too bad for 550K. Nice floors
When you see houses like this go up in Costa Rica, you know that it’s time to find a new place to visit.
Joe, I would start going to “look at houses” long before you think you can afford to buy one. If you have already seen the housing market go through a few ups and downs and seen what effect that has when you finally get there you’ll be way ahead of where some of us were when we bought house #1.
College Joe – thanks for the link. I went and looked at this same model that was on the market about a month ago for 519K and I just couldn’t do it. The front is so darn ugly. I also don’t like the elementary school (Park Dale). See why I’m still looking? I’m one of those picky buyers Jim always talks about 🙂 I currently own a home so I can afford to take my time. I might settle for ugly or an “ok” elementary school, but not both.
Jinx – I thought I was the only one. 🙂
