Angie said that the module installation will be complete by Friday, but it’ll take a couple of months to button it up (plumbing, electrical, and all finishing touches):

    Watch the fingers! Awesome.

That big overhang is weird. What is going on there.

Then, of course, if anybody from CALOSHA’s High Hazard Unit up in Orange County is watching this, there won’t be any more work on this site. Who are these guys, the Keystone Cops? I noticed half a dozen worker safety violations and I’m actually pulling for modular housing’s promising future.

I believe this is what Barratt was supposed to do at Nantucket (inclusionary requirement) so the poor guy that paid cash for the former model at foreclosure could have got a CofO. There was a low to moderate income lot on each side of the project, the second one was required before the foundation in phase 2 (the 4th unit in phase 2)could go vertical.
Does BA still own the swallow-occupied house at Bressi Ranch (Magnolia Estates)?

I love the idea, but what I dont like is the fact this particular ones were built with wood framing–I have seen some that were built with asteel beam structure and aluminum framing–I think it would make a world of difference for transportion and installation–eliminating the flex that I saw from the wood structures in the video–not to mention fire safety!

I guess the only upside is that someone in a factory out of state is building it while your doing the foundation work. Maybe saving 4-6 weeks.

Besides the permits I wonder what kind of hassles you’ll get from the building inspectors.

Every nail or screw in that sucker had to be pulled and every wall & corner racked.

If anyone says they like these things I dare you to buy one.

45,000 lbs? What’s it made out of, spent uranium?

Is it just me to think that it’s crazy to pre-install all the lighting, windows, and kitchen appliances before the module is moved to the site? Apart from adding weight, any flexing in the module during transport/installation could shatter the windows.

This is great video . I had the USModular Inc. (www.USModularInc.com) team build my modular home and they did a great job. Job took 4 months start to finish and compared to my neighbor who spent 18 months dealing with inspectorsand multiple sub-contractors – all why paying an extra years worth of rent, land mortgge and construction loand payments. I am SO glad I built modular and after people see my home – the oftern ask ” Why wouldn’t everybody build there house this way?” . Well I think that they wiil once they start seeing the quality and savings available.
