What will Southern California look like in the future?

The Times asked this question back in 1988, when 60% of the population was white and it took only 15 minutes to zip down the freeway from the Valley to downtown L.A. Planning experts crunched some numbers and gave their best guess for 2010. Some of their projections came pretty close. Other changes since the 1980s took everyone by surprise. Studying these numbers helped officials rethink what it might be like by 2040.

They are under projecting, what they really missed is that almost NO-ONE drives downtown anymore.

They either stay within the same suburb, or commute to another suburb for work.

L.A. is in some ways very different that SD, the Jobs are really spread out and newer industries such as Tech are located in the suburbs (not in the City).

If a millennial wants to live in the city, more than likely they will need to commute to the Suburbs for work.

In SD more the well paying Jobs are a lot closer to the City (south SD area) than they are in L.A.

Well maybe they are not under projecting but not counting where the new population will be, they probably will be living in Riverside and San Bernardino counties ans well as SD and OC.

Some People think SD is close to built out but it is really closer to zoned out (that can change). L.A. is really built out.

When I read about new housing developments out there in the hills, I just imagine a lot of middle-aged people riding on brand new trails, with their brand new trail bikes, trying to beat mountain lions off their backs with their stainless steel water bottles.
