I spent several years working and living in SF. This is gaudy and completely out of place with the rest of local architecture. Some serious greasing of the palms must have happened in order for this thing to be approved.
Look at the bits of adjoining properties that are visible in the first picture. #1 has it right on this one. It’s may be a lovely house, but it looks out of place.
I disagree. I go to school near SF (Santa Clara) and go into the city somewhat frequently. I love looking at houses and I love this neighborhood….and while the old, ornate homes are fantastic (of course), I think there is a place for a few modern ones. It adds a little ‘pop’ to a neighborhood that, while beautiful, can be a little staid & formal (along with Pacific Heights). There are a couple of other modern homes in Pacific Heights, which is one of my favorite neighborhoods….anywhere.
The bathroom is stunning….I love it. I may be the only one, but I do. I usually hate modern homes, but I think this is great. I like Sea Cliff better, though.

College Joe, Pacific Heights is not that far away from Russian Hills but homes there are for the mega millionaires/elites. Russian Hill can’t compare to it. You definitely can compare Pacific Heights to Russian Hill…outrageous and ridiculously expensive.
I am with College Joe–I love the house and if you look at the 2nd to last photo–it fits it well with the units across the street in that are visible in that photo–must be turing to an eclectic pocket???
SF neighborhoods tend to be very eclectic unless you live on one of those historic tourist photo streets. Nobody in that neighborhood will give the different facades a second look.
I live nearby and wholeheartedly DISapprove. I like the house a lot, it just doesn’t belong there. Russian Hill, Pac Heights, Presidio Heights… those are not ‘hoods meant to be eclectic. There are many other areas where you (they) can build something modern like that. I don’t know how they got this approved (oh, yes, I do, and it sucks).
