Del Mar Food Truck Festival

Though this event was at the Del Mar Fairgrounds during track season, you had to be looking for this – there were only a couple of signs at the far west end of the facility to direct people:

I attended one “Taste of …” event 15 years ago and said never again for all the reasons you cited — huge lines, high prices. Ugh.

Looks like a great way to blow 40 bucks, and then go hone hungry. Some of the food is quite good, but I hate the lack of tables. I always drip on my shirt or drop some of the $8 burrito from the little paper plates. Still, I assume the food trucks are raking in the cash — no brick and mortar overhead, etc.

My neighbor was there yesterday. He said he will never do Family Day/Food truck again because it was a giant cluster-frak. Fortunately for me, we have these food trucks park out in front of my work all week so I know I am not missing out.

Went to the one they had at Point Loma recently. All the negatives cited are true, but if you were a vendor you couldn’t help but be happy with a line 100 deep outside your truck.

Also, the food choices are pretty interesting.

Paired with some music or whatever it is not a bad way to kill a few hours.

The scrum at the micro brew festivals the past couple of years haven’t been any better.

Had a great time at the game last night and Dierks Bentley! Killer seats! The Gas Lamp area was interesting what with all the klingly (sic)dresses. The Gigi salad at the Palm was beyond fabulous, as usual. Thanks Jim, my wife and I had a wonderful time.
And I might add, your stimulus package actually worked. Taking into account the initial cost (tickets) we spent fives times the pump cost. Maybe you could get a government grant? Pictures to follow.

Being a veteran of the Taste of Chicago for many years, I mastered the “surgical strike” method. But I’ve realized the food truck events here are much different and you really can’t “surgical strike” b/c it does take much longer to get your food and I find myself just standing around waiting a lot. Not fun…
