This video exemplifies Jim (my mentor) at his best: solid info for sellers, buyers and yes, other agents. I just decided my closing gift to my (out-of-state) Realtor is to say three words to her: bubbleinfo (dot) com!

Mahalo JtR for all you do. And no need for keyboard insurance for me this early in the morning, ah life is good…

That concrete crack job looks a little weak to me.It’s looks like a bad bondo job.

I imagine the location of a crack in the foundation determines how critcal it is.If you have a huge crack running parallel to the out side bearing walls that could be trouble.I know in areas with a lot of clay they include steel cables throughout the foundation to help with the high shrink and swell in those soils.

Thanks for your continuous housing education for the regular folks. I bought my house last year in Palos Verdes area (close to Redondo Beach) and was wondering if you had any links or posts related to home renovation suggestions. The home is about 4k sq feet in a gated area but hasn’t been updated since it was built in 1979.

My wife and I are starting to upgrade the home but we are not sure if our understanding of “high end” improvements is out dated. Would you and/or your readers be able to provide some guidance on what type of materials (mostly in bathroom and kitchen) are expected in a 1.6m home?

Thanks again for all your posts.

We bought a new home in Texas a while ago before moving out of the state. The builder made a big deal out of the foundation being tied together with lots of steel cables.

This is when I first heard of expansive soil. Essentially the ground is wet in the winter and dry in the summer so it expands and contracts. We were supposed to “water our foundation.” I’m not making this up!
