We have known Jim & Donna Klinge for over a dozen years, having met them in Carlsbad where our children went to the same school. As long time North County residents, it was a no- brainer for us to have the Klinges be our eyes and ears for San Diego real estate in general and North County in particular. As my military career caused our family to move all over the country and overseas to Asia, Europe and the Pacific, we trusted Jim and Donna to help keep our house in Carlsbad rented with reliable and respectful tenants for over 10 years.
Naturally, when the time came to sell our beloved Carlsbad home to pursue a rural lifestyle in retirement out of California, we could think of no better team to represent us than Jim and Donna. They immediately went to work to update our house built in 2004 to current-day standards and trends — in 2 short months they transformed it into a literal modern-day masterpiece. We trusted their judgement implicitly and followed 100% of their recommended changes. When our house finally came on the market, there was a blizzard of serious interest, we had multiple offers by the third day and it sold in just 5 days after a frenzied bidding war for 20% above our asking price! The investment we made in upgrades recommended by Jim and Donna yielded a 4-fold return, in the process setting a new high water mark for a house sold in our community.
In our view, there are no better real estate professionals in all of San Diego than Jim and Donna Klinge. Buying or selling, you must run and beg Jim and Donna Klinge to represent you! Our family will never forget Jim, Donna, and their whole team at Compass — we are forever grateful to them.
Looks very kid friendly. At $35M do the cars convey?
the Ferrari in glass reminded me of Ferris Bueller

Imagine having to wash the windows every time it rains or the sprinklers turn on to get rid of waterspots.
But it would be cool to have all your collector car toys in the living room.
Ah, good old Mid-Century/Bauhaus aesthetic.
And yes, you’d need to buy Costco-sized helpings of Windex for that place.
I recognized the house immediately. Saw it in a local real estate magazine a few months ago. I call Montecito “Celebrity Land”. At $35 mil, it’s one of the most expensive homes there, but nothing in Montecito is cheap.
For those out-of-state, Montecito is right next to Santa Barbara…
Osidebuyer beat me to the Ferris Bueller call!
Sweet house.
osidebuyer,
I thought of Ferris Bueller too.
Montecito is where Al Gore recently bought a carbon-spewing mansion to release his second chakra when he’s not private jetting around the world.
I’ve been told Montecito was largely developed by Warren Buffett’s right-hand man Charlie Munger, who bought a huge slug of beachfront property and then sold off parcels to his buddies.
Stunning. Although seeing the mega garage underneath (in the later photographs) made the house look like it was suspended over a luxe dealership – gearhead appeal.
Who is going to go around cleaning up all the dead birds at the foot of the foundation?
I wonder if I can low-ball them…
That is a truly stunning house, but I’d get creeped out at night, thinking that anyone can look in and see everything that’s going on. Yes, the lot is large and private, but still…
Very beautiful.
Seems a bit cold; it looks more like a museum than a house. The right earthquake may render it a giant deck.
Wouldn’t kick it out of bed though.
And to address CA renter’s concern:

Geez, no more walking around in my underwear.
I’ll pass on this one.
Proof that you just can’t buy class. Or maybe you can?
That roof is certainly impressive but the whole place looks like an eye/nose surgery in Munich.
For that amount all those cars better be runners but the Ferrari’s oil would ruin the floor. So I bet they are mere shells.
Also I would require it on the beach with a nice right and left break, with private access and a pool. 35 mill don’t get you much these days. Or does it, Jimmy?
I wonder if you could just coat it with Rain-X every year?
Awesome house !
The bathtub is right in front of the window, just above the driveway to the garage?
And has anyone else noticed there aren’t any curtains or blinds anywhere to be seen including in the master bedroom?
This is definitely a house for exhibitionists!
LOL at comment #9!
To the people concerned about privacy… I used to live in Santa Barbara and drove through Montecito almost daily (school and for pleasure). You can’t see *most* of the homes there from the road, or (I’m guessing) from other homes. The lots are huge and heavily forested. I’m sure nobody can see in this place.
This reminds me of the new high-rise condo in downtown San Jose, the Axis. (www.axissanjose.com) The outside walls are floor-to-ceiling glass. Units above about the 5th floor are not for the faint of heart. Fun place to visit, but I don’t think I’d want to live there. I noticed on my last visit that most of the occupants had hung curtains.
Cleaning glass is not as low cost as you would imagine.
I was talking with a guy who lived on Emerald Bay Drive in Laguna Beach. His bill for window cleaning (due to wind, waves, sand) was multiple thousands per month.

Not a standard 3/2, 1,800 sf house, I take it? 😉
I like it. However, I would I would rather have a classic Spanish style home and they have some good ones up there.
