Eh….I’ve been to St. Louis and Houston. This article has zero credibility. But then, it’s all about the clicks, isn’t it?
Ranks Chicago #1 for Parks and Recreation. ‘Nuff said?
Now I will give kudos to Chicago for an outstanding park system. Rest assured it has nothing to do with politicians in the past several decades. It goes back to the turn of the 20th century when some visionaries set aside a ton of land for forest preserves. They’ve got wonderful hiking and biking trails. No building is allowed east of Lake Shore Drive either, ensuring the beaches and views are open to the public and no zillionaire is going to build in front of your lakefront view (from the west side of LSD). As I kid I rode my bicycle 20 miles from where we lived to downtown Chicago and rarely had to venture onto public streets. The bike paths through the forest preserves and along the lake front are wonderful.
Now Chicago has a whole lot of other problems as most big cities do, but parks aren’t one of them. If you’ve got some coin to spend, there’s a half a dozen boat harbors along the lake too. Of course, you have to pull your boat in the winter.
