I stayed clear of the fires, but saw these photos and video online. Only 4 houses and 18 condos lost, 2 commercial buildings, and seven others damaged. I think the two houses above are the ones circled in yellow below – and the news is reporting that the third house circled was also destroyed:

DC-10 Super Tanker has arrived:
San Marcos last night from a distance:
The homes circled did not have 100-feet of defensible space.
So relieved that only 8 houses were destroyed. That DC-10 supertanker really is something to see. They used it a lot around San Bernardino where I live. Seeing and hearing a jumbo jet roaring by so low over my house was amazing.
Fires create terrible updrafts and unpredictable wind and turbulence conditions.
They came very close to crashing it a few years back…even clipped the tops of some trees! Those pilots have brass cojones:

New count: 4 houses and 18 condos lost in Carlsbad.
Open space views more risky now I guess but so are illegal campsites
