Generally, average quality honed and filled 18″ travertine flooring can be as inexpensive as $2 per sq. ft. at Home Depot or Lowes, while a travertine look 18″ porcelain tile with a PEI rating of at least 3 starts at about $4 sq. ft. at Arizona Tile.
Of course, the real thing looks superior to the man made thing.
$4000 to upgrade the paint? Isn’t it the same work to paint off-white or tan? Seems like a money marker for the builder.
I sort of like the door at the front to the courtyard, but not if I was carrying much stuff.
Is that ceramic or porcelain? If it’s porcelain, it looks like a pretty low quality. What a mistake.
To NoTechnie’s point, the cost difference in natural stone is the amount of waste (slightly higher), and difficulty/time in getting rectified tile properly installed. When you have sloppy workers with little experience, non rectified porcelain is much more forgiving, cheaper to lay.
Good quality labor was VERY difficult to find during the boom.
Even now, they’re very expensive.
Sad, looks like everything was cheaped out on that place.
