The heavily-populated areas of California are prone to earthquakes – virtually all of Los Angeles metro and the Bay Area are in high-risk zones:
But San Diego County’s coastal region is relatively safe from earthquakes:

To boot Ca has its own supervolcano, at Mammoth, the Long Valley Caldera, it is about as big as Yellowstone also. (See Bishop Tuff etc). Of course San Diego at least in areas where there are coastal cliffs is somewhat immune from tsunamis as well. The Mission Bay area might be a loss however with an event in the right position somewhere in the Pacific.
Point Loma appears to be the safest coastal area.
