Trying to get back into video production after a three-week layoff:
Great point about the rubber neckers. My idea was that CHP should erect tall screens or something around accidents to prevent people from checking out the scene. Or maybe replace the median foliage with some sort of wall of something to block the view of the opposite lanes.
We need some critical thinkers over at CalTrans!!!
In LA on the 5 around Burbank CalTrans did exactly what you suggested regarding lane striping. They completely removed the center median and the “fast lane” is like 6 inches from the cement guard rail. Personally I find it a little unnerving going 75 mph 2-3 feet from a cement guard rail. But I can attest that it’s an effective way to get an extra lane in. This might be the reason CalTrans is looking to remove the oriander because you wouldn’t be able to drive that close to the cement guard rail if they are there.
What really needs to happen is either an above ground (never going to happen b/c it effects views) or and underground double decker freeway. I’d be willing to drive in a tunnel for 30 minutes but no traffic instead of 1-2 hours in stop and go but with the sun.
This is an excellent example of what turned LA into….well….LA. Cutting down all the freeway foliage.
SD will become an LA soon enough. Why not get rid of the median trees on the 163 as well? Eventually they will.
Build a screen…build a wall….it all looks like hell.
