Foreclosure Cruise
Thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and to those who served.
The previous generation was proud to serve – My dad was a ROTC second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and my two uncles served as well – Tom was in the Navy, and John was in the Army too. All three served between Korea and Vietnam, so they didn’t face any live fire, but their contribution is worthy.
My Uncle John passed away last night, after a bout with Parkinsons. He was a great man, and we’ll miss him dearly – RIP.
(this video was done yesterday)

800K down and then loses it all….wow. No truer words than “A fool and his money are soon parted”.
Just some guy | May 30th, 2011 at 4:56 pmCongratulations on #800, JtR! And mahalo for the glimpse of ocean views. No matter how hard I look, they’re non-existent here in Potato Land…
$800K down payment and then forclosed? Ouch!
Susie | May 30th, 2011 at 5:06 pmSo sorry about your uncle. Seems like all the old vets that were in WWII and Korea are slipping away. Learn the real history and the personal stories from the guys that experienced those wars while you can.
Another Investor | May 30th, 2011 at 7:04 pmI’m very sorry about our uncle. Matt’s father had parkinson’s and passed away from complications from it.
Whoever got the house in Calavera got a steal to get it for $400ish.
Erin | May 30th, 2011 at 7:40 pmSo sorry to hear about your uncle. My uncle passed away 1 1/2 years ago at 90 from old age after dealing with a couple of decades of side effects of Parkinsons disease. He was a WWII vet tailgunner and experienced a lot of combat. And he was a great man – father of 14 wonderful children. He worked hard to support his family and loved them and his Catholic faith. I miss the twinkle in his Irish eyes.
And here’s to my Marine officer son-in-law, of whom I am extremely proud. He’s been through 3 tours of duty in Iraq and in currently in Afghanistan for a one year tour. Yes, he’s been faced lots of fire. It takes a brave man to lead the troops into battle.

How many months of “free rent” did the $800K downpayment guy get?
tj & the bear | May 30th, 2011 at 10:08 pmThank you for acknowledging that banks are manipulating the market.
As a buyer it’s hard to justify the investment when you know values are being artificially inflated. Do you bet that banking interests will continue to get their way? Or do you stay out as a matter of principle?
The only real winners in this game are the deadbeats that get rewarded for their stupidity.
shadash | May 31st, 2011 at 2:55 amA little of topic but does anyone know what the new FHA loan limits will be for Los Angeles county?
JimT | May 31st, 2011 at 6:11 amMy condolences on the passing of your Uncle John. Indeed, their contributions were more than worthy.
rodeman | May 31st, 2011 at 7:29 amDear Jim; God bless you and your family during this time of loss another vet passes on.
God bless Uncle John’s service to country and family best wishes to his family and friends.

will young | May 31st, 2011 at 12:46 pmSo what is it about that garage door that is cheeseball? We were thinking of getting a new door, and wanted to get one that was rustic wood style, but definitely don’t wanna make the “cheeseball” mistake.
Jeeman | May 31st, 2011 at 1:26 pmCondolences on your uncle’s passing.

If I could butt in, though you didn’t ask my opinion, on that house the wooden carriage style door, but with small square panels, is really out of place. I think they were trying to use the shutter garage door combo to tie the brick addition to the original house. It’s really dissonant though. If they wanted wooden doors for that 70ish house they probably would have been better served with a vertical plank look like this

My next door neighbor has a brand new door like that and it looks great. His garage was built in the 1920s though.

MarkB | May 31st, 2011 at 5:14 pmI was asking for anybody’s opinion…the more the merrier!
I can’t envision what your neighbor’s is like. Is there a comparable door in one of these images?

Jeeman | May 31st, 2011 at 5:26 pmJeeman, I’m also shopping for new garage doors for the spanish style house we purchased in January. I have a quote from these guys http://www.ranchhousedoors.com and http://www.sunwooddoors.com. Will probably go with the first company. I have 5 doors to replace!
New to LA | May 31st, 2011 at 6:33 pmNew to LA…
Which door did you choose, and what was your quote? I haven’t even started, because it’s low on my renovation list. I haven’t done a thing since we moved in…life is too busy, haha.
Jeeman | May 31st, 2011 at 6:40 pmI have a quote for a door similar to RDH064 (Madrid) with a custom radius to match curved opening. Clear red Cedar stained on site. 9×8 door is approx $3,650 (includes hardware, 3/4hp opener & installation). A 18×7 door is approx $5,350. They will build anything you want. We are working on plans for an addition so I’m waiting to see if I get a better deal on the doors through the builder/GC that we hire. They will make a big difference on the curb appeal of our house. We have a nice wood front door and cheap/plain/ugly garage doors. New doors will match front door.
New to LA | May 31st, 2011 at 9:10 pmNew to LA,
Does that Madrid one swivel outwards, like a gate? That is a beautiful door. An 18×7 is a standard two car garage door?
Jeeman | June 1st, 2011 at 10:53 amJeeman, no it goes up like a regular garage door, 3 horizontal sections. Some designs are 4 sections. Not sure what is standard! Front of house has two 9×8 attached garages and rear detached garage has the 18×7 and an 11×7. The detached garage is older/original hence the 7ft height. I think many newer homes have 8ft high doors to fit the taller SUVs.
