Tanta Vive

Many of you have already heard that Calculated Risk’s co-host, Tanta, passed away yesterday.

http://calculatedrisk.blogspot.com/2008/11/sad-news-tanta-passes-away.html

She once asked the CR audience for some current data on neg-ams, which I had so I sent it along.  She replied with a warm thank you, and left me thinking that, for someone who has 75,000 daily readers, she sure is as kind and humble as she seems on the blog.

It’s moments like that which restore my confidence in what we are doing here – trying to help each other figure it all out along the way.

Thanks for the inspiration Tanta!

  1. I agree, Tanta was great. I would always read CR first thing in the morning, hoping that she herself had posted something.

  2. Don’t sell yourself short Jim. You got that treatment because you deserved it. Doris was exceptional in seeing the value and ignoring the sparkle. If she was nice it was because of that.

  3. Thanks Dawg. But can you imagine running a blog with a severe medical condition, and probably heavily sedated much of the time?

Oh yeah, you probably can. BTW, how is your health?

I spent the weekend at my folks’ house. My Dad is in pretty good shape, for a guy that had a debilitating stroke two years ago. But the mortality thing has been bearing down on me, and then the Tanta news.

But following his stroke, and honestly following your little dance with the devil, I decided they might be coming for me next – and I’m not ready to go. So I’ve been working out three times a week for the last six months, and lost 15 lbs since. So in an awkward-funny way, I’d like to say thanks for the inspiration. I haven’t felt this good since high school.

  4. I’m doing pretty good. I’d being doing great were it not for the crushing guilt on having never made good on a lost bet. Just got back from my usual 5 day/week 3-4 mile walk, scars are turning pink rather than angry purple and hardly anything hurts. I look 10 years younger unfortunately that merely means I look my age. :-(

I’m glad your dad is comfortable and yeah this stuff may sneak up slowly but it also slaps you silly when it gets close enough. We all will miss her contributions.

You wouldn’t believe how many wives hustled their hubby off to the GP and cardiologist after my adventure. I’m also the new morbid interest of the Framingham Heart Study where my family has been participating since 1946.

  5. It was shocking to me how saddened I was, after reading CR’s post, for a person I never meet. She was a true light in this world and will be so terribly missed by so many.

  6. Dawg – aren’t you just waiting for the $3 cup you predicted?

Looks like it might be here any day!
