Shark Bite Morning After
Not sure if the word just travels slow, or if these are daredevil surfers, but this is a photo of Tamarack Beach, about 12 miles north of where a triathlete was killed by a great white shark yesterday. The area has been buzzing with the story, so the last thing you’d expect is people in the water!

Your odds are 1000x greater getting killed driving to the beach than getting in the water by a shark.
SantaFeHills | April 26th, 2008 at 4:47 pmExactly.
Too bad the surf is not good today or else I would be out in Del Mar right now.
Ijon_Tichy | April 26th, 2008 at 5:21 pm150 yards out swimming is sharkbait. Perfect for the shark to hit hard from below.
On the other hand, 6-10 feet of water (where the surf is) isn’t conducive to the shark’s preferred predation method.
The shark is long gone, but the authorities have to keep up the nanny state (both conservative and liberal) pretenses.
sunsetbeachguy | April 26th, 2008 at 6:42 pmSafer than being in the housing market. Fewer sharks and less hungry.
Rob Dawg | April 26th, 2008 at 7:40 pmWhere’s the paddle boarders at, there’s the true bait!
SurferNate | April 26th, 2008 at 7:45 pmQuint: What do you have there? A portable ironing board?
Hooper: It’s a surfborad.
Quint: Surfboard. You go on the surfboard?
(Hooper nods)
Quint: Board goes on the water. You go on the board, in the water. Shark’s in the water. Our shark. (pauses, smiles)
Farewell and adieu to you, Spanish Ladies,
RB Renter | April 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pmFarewell and adieu to you, ladies of Spain;
For we’ve received orders for to sail back to Boston,
And so nevermore shall we see you again.
My Dad lives on the bluff in Solana and was the person who called 911. This happened just below his house. There was a beached seal that the lifeguards were protecting from beachgoers, and he yelled to lifeguards to turn around as there was a group of swimmers carrying in a person in distress. He thought it was a drowning…The photos in the UT and on their www signonsandiego.com were from workers working on my Dads sea wall. My Dad also had some shots that were posted in the www during the night. Jim, I’ll send you the photos and I’ll see you tomorrow at 9:30 am
doughboy | April 26th, 2008 at 9:39 pmI was surfing Fri morning when this happened about a mile north. I saw the coast guard copter, but didn’t know anything until noon yesterday. I would probably be out too if the surf was actually good.
pipessurf | April 26th, 2008 at 11:06 pmSurfer on right: SHARK…SHARK!
Surfer on left: Dude….I’m gona kick your butt….you just made crap my wet suit!
BottomFisher | April 27th, 2008 at 12:48 amSeems to me the water is safer today than before the shark attack. After all, the shark did not eat the person. Which means, the shark did not like the person’s / wetsuit’s taste. So, how likely is it to bite into the next guy?
Simone | April 27th, 2008 at 1:06 amWell the lineups will be light for a few weeks. Martin’s son and daughter-in-law were at church tonight.
pipessurf | April 27th, 2008 at 4:45 amThose guys are on logs, you don’t even need to touch the water on a board that big, especially on a swell this small. This is the safest time to go in the ocean – we shouldn’t expect another attack for about fifty years
