I lived in CA for 51 years until 2005 best thing I ever did was leave.
Air quality has gotten slowly but consistently better over the years as CA car emissions standards have kicked in. Smokestacks also are allowed to release less particulate matter than they used to be, but that’s more of an issue in the Eastern U.S. Ironically, one of the things that noticeably affects air quality in California now is air pollution from China, brought here by the wind. It’s getting to be a real small world.
Been there. Done that. Got the gas receipts to prove it. This is the acceptance season. This time next year you’ll have a teen who forbids you to get your own mail. Our results to date: CPSLO, UCD, UCSD, UCLA all yes. Still waiting on Bezerkley, USC and ‘Vard.

What a beautiful photo! Can’t put a price on that. Thanks Jim.
Kevin, sorry it took you 51 years to leave. Is this the right forum for such comments?
Getting in is one thing, affording it another. I’m hoping Harvard comes through as it is likely to be the cheapest of all the choices. Says something about the state of the State of California doesn’t it when Harvard costs less than instate costs for a system that is Constitutionally prohibited from charging tuition. "I wanted to go to Davis but couldn’t afford it so I had to go to Harvard instead." Yeah, that’s a way to invest in our future.

Observing the gigantic financial mess Wall Street has put this country in, I would never brag about my kid getting a business degree from one of those East Coast Ivy League schools. If these graduates are so freakin’ smart, why are they always needing a tax payer bailout in the real world? Do these schools teach courses on how to screw over your fellow American on the way to the Ferrari dealer? Pathetic!
Also, Dwip, I don’t know where you get your information that China is influencing our air quality, but I am 99% positive that China/Asia’s influence on California’s air quality is negligible for most of the year. I’d be happy to discuss this with you if you want details, but this is a bit off-topic for this forum.
