Oceanside Foreclosure Story

(photo from a corner in Fire Mountain, Oceanside)
The North County Times today has a front-page article on the foreclosure mess in 92057:
http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2008/01/27/news/top_stories/1_01_991_26_08.txt

The article should have included more financial details, including their yearly gross earnings.
She said that since she bought her home two years ago for $680,000…
Wow! Really? I’m in the top 5% of earners in the USA and could barely afford that price. Must be some rich folks in that neighborhood.
Tyrone | January 27th, 2008 at 5:15 pm"In one word: terrible," said Barbara Baker, a real estate agent in Murrieta. "It makes it impossible for someone with a job offer elsewhere to get fair market value. It’s awful. I’ve been here since 1980 and I haven’t seen it this bad."
The foreclosure price IS the market price.

Fair market value = what I told the seller I thought I could sell it for.
Jim the Realtor | January 27th, 2008 at 5:49 pmThe Daily Breeze (a South Bay newspaper,Los Angeles County) has a very similar story running today. I guess the media is finally waking up to what has been an obvious story for over many months, if not years.
dan | January 27th, 2008 at 7:35 pm“Last year, one out of every 17 homes in Oceanside’s 92057 ZIP code entered foreclosure in this northeast corner of the city,”
This is so other areas of the county can feel good about their zip codes. “Honey our area will be fine. 92057 had 1 out of 17 homes go into foreclosure, we only had 1 out of 40 in our zip…..”
SMC | January 27th, 2008 at 11:09 pmwe only had 1 out of 40 in our zip…
so far.
CA renter | January 28th, 2008 at 8:18 amVery informative, Thanks for posting this.
Living in Oside I would love to see the city pick some of the homes and make them available for the "Cop next door" program. This gives the police a huge discount on the price in exchange for living there 2-3 years.
The police have done such a great job on the crime here I think something like that would get 92057 on the fast track to turning around like many other parts of the city.
keith l | January 28th, 2008 at 4:29 pmKeith,
Good idea! My wife and I go for lunch about once a week to Chili’s in Oceanside on Vista Way. On some visits, the OPD motorcycle policemen have their lunch there also. Great guys, doing a great job for their town!

John | January 28th, 2008 at 8:46 pmWe used to live in O’side, and I can attest to the fantastic job the O’side PD do.
They arrive quickly and in large numbers to important calls — very responsive and professional.
We lived in LA before, and the difference between LAPD and O’Side PD is unbelievable.
CA renter | January 29th, 2008 at 1:07 amI also have very high praise for the Oceanside PD.
I occasionally assist with their canine patrols by letting them use a vacant listing for training purposes.
They are top-notch professionals.
